Theres only ONE Diana Ross-I saw her in Concert a few years back . She worked her butt off, singing and going down into the audience to dance with people. She was wonderful. She loves her fans. I was sadden the way that the "Supremes -Summer of Love" reunion tour turned out, a few years back-- Bad planning.
My favorite post 1989 clips are her TV appearences from 1994 that you can find here on youtube and her performance at the Royal Variety Performance from 1991 (which was the first thing from her I've ever seen) but you can't find them on youtube.
Thanks. I'm still learning it but it gets better and better because I write comments here everyday :)
Thanks! It's interesting to hear your point of view. My observation is not that she was never again as good in the 90s as in the 80s. It's that she was not as consistently good. I have noticed that in addition to vocal strain problems, circa 1989 she began to sing less inspired arrangements of songs. Compare "I'm Coming Out" from this concert to the one from the 1981 show. It has far more feeling and is smoother in tone. Pls. tell me your favorite post 1989 clips. BTW your English is great!
I was there, too. I wouldn't say she was crystal clear. This concert definitely marks a change in the predictability in the quality of her live singing. Since 89 I have seen many remarkable performances but also many poor ones (strangely often in the same concert). Here's an example of each from recent times: Inside the Actor's Studio: gorgeous, sophisticated, intricately turned. Divas With Heart (Radio City 2007): shrill, flat, off key, off tempo, unnuanced.
Altho the quality of this post is poor, the fact is that Diana did sound scratchy on many songs. ("Missing" and "Mirror" are exceptions. She was fantastic there.) Maybe she was tired from recently having 2 children but if you follow from this time you see that this is the beginning of unpredictable singing from her. Before, she was perfect. From 1989 on, it's been random. Sometimes she's magic. Other times, shrill, off key and cracking. Menopause, booze, years without Berry. May be many causes.
I love miss ross she is a true insperatoin to all of us x

Did you hear her perfomances form the early 90s? There she's as great as in the early 80s. Well, in 1995 her voice and look changed very much.
(Sorry for this bad English, I hope you all understand me ;))

Her up-tempo songs during her show are always a pleasure to hear! I wish she did record them that way
