@MrMrCosro Well, Patti Smith, Television, and Talking Heads were punk. I even consider the first two Elvis Costello albums punk. It was never a sound, it was an era.

Punk rock, even in its broadest terms, is most definitely NOT 'rock n roll'. All politics aside, the aesthetic differences are rather difficult to overlook. Punk rock is about thrashing out power chords, screaming at the top of your lungs and making damn sure that everyone within a mile or so knows exactly what you're saying and why. Punk rock was spawned precisely because rock and roll wasn't getting the message through. This is why punk rock exists.
