A giant inflatable Pipeline at the Tarsands Action in Washington DC. Over 10,000 protesters surrounded the White House on all four sides to demand President Obama reject the proposed TransCanada Keystone XL Pipeline.

Everyone uses oil based products for transportation, etc. but you have to admit that the industry keeps shooting itself in the foot. What could not & would not happen happens (Exxon Valdez, Transocean Gulf blowout, refinery fires and explosions, pipeline leaks, etc.). The Keystone XL Pipeline COULD be safe & environmentally sound IF TransCanada would invest the time & money to monitor the pipeline, replace faulty valves & corroded pipe, etc. But that is a cost & cuts into the bottom line.

@MrJohngalt2011 you're right...in it's underground, undisturbed "natural" location, it doesn't hurt a thing. spilling it all over the surface hurts many things. Burning it and releasing noxious gasses, is also damaging to "mother earth" lol. Read your posts before you send them. "It is a natual resource that comes from mother earth." My fav. part. So is radon. By your standard arsenic, mercury, and lead don't hurt the environment/our wellbeing because they "come from earth". Wow

@bookface8 Yes it would be stupid. Because new plants, and new pipelines are more secure and safer. Why don't the environemental nuts jobs get out of the way, allow us as a country retire old plants and then rebuild with newer cleaner plants. some of our coal plants were built in the 1940's but a new plant would be protested by the tree huggers - so we live with dirtier air becuase of them. yes, it would be stupid as it is right now. Think about it!

@MrJohngalt2011 - Why do you say that? Think about nuclear reactors for a moment; presently, there are about 84 of them online in the US. Considering all we know about the risks, do you think it stupid and/or ignorant to protest the building of new reactors, too?

@MrJohngalt2011 Just about as ignorant and stupid as believing that human kind will exist without a livable habitat.

So they are protesting a pipeline when there are already thousands of miles of pipeline in this country. Seems pretty stupid and rather ignorant.
