I should thoroughly explain the long term therapy because it takes about a month to notice the maximum benenfits of this change in sleep habits. You don't necessarily have to go to bed later, it depends on what your sleep cycle is currently and you don't want to reduce your sleep that significantly. But for some reason, the strongest factor in this study was the subjects wake up early, around 6 a.m. It seems the later someone with depression sleeps in, the more prevalent their depression is.
I took Biological Psychology when I went to my University and they are doing studies on alternative ways to manage depression.
One thing they've noticed a strong correlation with is when people go 24 hours without sleep, they're depression seems to go away temporarily. Now the longer term therapy they are studying is sleeping less. To be concise, they are noticing if you go to sleep later, around midnight, and wake up early, around 6 a.m., this has significantly reduced depression in ppl.
