Sophia & I are out for dinner and I thought I'd test out the video quality on my new Nikon D90 while eating. Perhaps it's due to the low light, but the quality over-all is NOT impressive.

  • most def. Getting a faster lense will open up your eyes to low light via camera of course, and enable you to do many different things you might not have seen before using a slow lense.. Forget the 600 primes, just go for the 1.8-2.8. 50s. Got the camera, def should get the lenses.

  • Yep, this was before I had picked up my 50 1.8. I've been quite happy with it so far, and the crisp video it outputs is really quite nice.

  • I think if I upped the ISO, it would have added even more noise (in my opinion, there's too much already). As for the lens, I had it at f3.5, the widest for this one (a 18-105mm). No real chance of me investing in a $600 prime lens for now, perhaps next year when I return overseas.

  • i also noted the grain, then bought a 28mm 2.8 and a 50mm 1.8 on ebay and ta da the grain dissapeared

the issue is that the lens isnt fast enough for low light

in fact i almost never use the stock lens for video anymore, only photos

  • No kiddin... hrm... good to know! I'll give my 50mm 1.8 a shot and see what she does. Thanks for the heads up bud!

  • You need to use a lens for low light or maybe should have bumped the ISO up.
