For info about how DI works see here: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=60218

Double Stick Techs. Use the control stick to change the knockback's trajectory to the lowest one possible by holding perpendicularly to the default trajectory, while also holding down on the c-stick to ASDI directly towards the ground. Press L/R directly before you get hit to tech.

For something like Marth's f-smash (sends up&away at 45 degrees normally) you'd hold down&away on the control stick and straight down on the c-stick (it doesn't matter when you start holding them), and then time L/R right before it connects (you can't input the tech during hitlag).

The ASDI down is what makes you hit the floor and be able to tech, so if the vertical knockback is too powerful it won't work. This is why you want the lowest trajectory you can get with your DI, and it works much better on attacks that normally send diagonally or lower (Fox's u-smash stops working at very low damage as you can see in the vid).

  • so.....this is basically SSBM armor lock.......

  • JIGGLY! Puff... Jigglypuff. :D

  • @SoraHyuuga01 1:08 I'd say it works against fox's up smash just fine, provided your damage isn't very high.

  • @GenoGar Ah, I see. So it's useful for the most part but it doesn't work against certain things namely fox's up smash and the like. Well it's a good thing barely anyone uses fox right?

    Noi'mnotsrs

I guess if jiggz misses a rest you'd want to try and kill her off the top anyway depending on your respective character's killing moves so... Oh well.

  • @SoraHyuuga01

If vertical knockback is too high then you'll just "miss" the ground when you try to ASDI, DI, and/or SDI.

The knockback of Fox's upsmash is purely vertical so this trick will stop working at above ~16% as shown in the video.

Unless it spikes (e.g. Fox's Dair, Falco's Dair) or meteors (e.g. Peach's Dtilt, Falcon's Dair, Link's Dtilt), you can use this to recover from many things like shown in the video.

Things like Fox's and Falco's Dsmash can be recovered from indefinitely.

  • So how hard is this to do consistently? If you miss a rest could you theoretically survive with this almost every time if you do it properly?

  • awesome
