Trip to Galax, VA from Cumberland, RI

Here's a video of my photos from the road trip my mom & I took to her hometown of Galax, VA in August 2006. Sights you'll see: Luray Caverns, Galax, VA, Ennice, NC, Max Meadows, VA, Blue Ridge Parkway and Mabry Mill, a stop at the Food City 500 Family Day in Bristol, VA / Bristol, TN where I got photos of NASCAR drivers Bobby Labonte, Travis Kvapil, Kevin Lapage, Carl Edwards, Justin Martin and Jack Ingram. Also, we had a brief stop in Gettysburg, PA on the way back home to Cumberland, RI.

I know a lot about galax va i lived there for 26 years. I did my best to start a family in galax,the truth is the crime for such a small town was awful, drugs were out of a big problem, and all the rich important people in town took all the jobs out of town. An honest man that just wants to work and have a family in galax dosent have the first chance. im glad i moved from that awful place

Well, it certainly has changed a lot in the 35+ years I've been visiting it. I'm sure it was even more completely different when my mom was growing up there in the 50s. I do enjoy visiting there... I hope the jobs return, it would certainly help all around.

Was goofing around looking for Galax Bluegrass Festival stuff on youtube. Your "trip" was great fun to watch. You have an amazing eye with the camera. Keep up the good photog work! Love the yellow flower with white house in the background...

i love all these photos. im from galax virgnia. and i also have family in ennice north carolina...this brought back alot of memories. i miss it soooo much. now i live in roanoke va....doesnt even come close. (:

I love Galax. My Granny and Poppy Sexton used to own a bar there many many years ago (I believe in the 30's, maybe 40's). I've visted that beautiful part of the country many times and have loved it everytime I have gone.

Great pics of rural America. These pics are my life even though I am not from Galax or Bristol. I have been there to Galax many times and ran the mountain road to Mt. Airy NC. Rural America is under seige. Mabry Mill is beautiful too. That little eatery there stays quite busy.

The jobs are not coming back unless there is a change in DC and soon. All the small towns are hurting with the crooks we got in there now calling the shots.
