That time, Russia was putting pressure for Poland and few years later with Prussia and Austria divided Poland. Russians provoke Ukrainians to rising, because this year also was Bar's confederation- confederation of polish nobility against Russian Forces and Polish king, who was depended of Russians. So, polish rising hadn't to function on south of country. Confederation was defeat by Russians and kings forces, the same like Ukrainians. And the only winner was Russia.

No all of you had it wrong. 1768 was the year when the Ukrainian cossak and peasant rebellion called "Koliyivschyna" started. The main purpose of the rebellion was to stop cultural and religious oppression that was being done to Ukrainians within the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Non-orthodox Christians where killed during this rebellion. It was eventually suppressed by Pol-Lith and Russian Forces. Koliyivschyna means impaling in Ukrainian, b/c this is how many of its members where excuted.
