India has quite a few educated and intelligent people. These floods happen every year or at least periodically. Why are plans not made to turn these 'flood plains' into some sort of national park? The occupants of the land should be humanely moved to areas which do not flood. Otherwise, you will see this happen again in the near future. Flooding is a natural event. You would not live next to an active volcano would you?
