The Quest for Tone continues with Groover and the Fender 22 watt all valve Super Sonic 22 combo with a Fender Road Worn 60's Strat in Sunburst.

The Super Sonic 22 is a great all rounder packed full of classic juicy Fender tones with all the right credentials that would be on your shortlist for a mid wattage valve combo topped off with stunning retro blonde looks, channel switching and footswitch options.

Sounded absolutely awesome in the flesh.

  • good guitar good amp what else can u ask?

  • @TheTangentUK I ended up taking the SS22 back due to build problems, poor tone when turned up on the clean (starting at 4) and bad crackling and fading when turned up with a tubedriver in front. I now have a Peavey Delta Blues 115 which I like a lot. Not as hot in the overdrive but hot enough for what I need. I also have a Genz-Benz Black Pearl which is a very versatile amp although only single channel.

  • what a great demo and great playing!

  • I like the clean and dirty clean but the gainy stuff sounds so fuzzy. I like clean high gain tones. No fizz/fuzz on the note. But this amp seems to have that.

  • @wileym I sold the HRDx3 & bought a silverface bassman, which sounded amazing, best amp I have had hands down, but to loud for the garage even, so I now have a sf vibrochamp, which has great cleans up to 5, then starts to break up very nice, I may be getting a blackface 1966 deluxe reverb, not sure if my mate is still selling it, if so that will be my new toy he he will post a demo when or if I get it, as it sounds so amazing, I nearly creamed first time I heard it, and no joke

  • Fantastic demo mate

  • Thank you! - finally someone who can play in a demo that highlights a fender tone and the sweet spots in this amp. Nice to hear both crunch chords and blues licks!...I>E> those awesome open E's on neck position. Amp has a few sweet spots to my ears.. Hard to stop playing once set up right and you can play like this. Love the crunchy horn punch chords and big E's. 4x10s would be amazing! Close to my holy grail tone cranked BFSR ? Maybe the closest on fender line with Gain 1.2 set @ 12-2:00

  • @TheTangentUK It came down to a choice between the HRD3 and this amp. I ended up trading a mesa F-50, Laney Cub 10 and Marshall Haze 40 even up for it. It sounds that good. I was a bit upset at the low value on my trades at first but since getting it home I feel like I won. This amp is the best sounding amp I have owned, the most versatile by far. I wouldn't say the clean was necessarily better, it is different though and 22 watts is plenty. The DRRi it is based on is one of the all time best.

  • @TheTangentUK cranked* I'd highly recommend it if you want a great quality amp with all the features that you'd need from blues to metal. The only thing I'd condemn it for is the flimsy boards at the back, the cage at the back of mine rattles as it shakes with some notes, but it's not noticeable with higher volumes.

  • @TheTangentUK if you are considering this amp then I'd try one out first, it sounds much better! I have one of these and the sound is great, single coils sound heavenly through the vintage channel and you hear every note really well. I use a deluxe strat with BK slowhands and I get a spot on woman tone when I crank the first channel in my garage, or a dani California clean tone. The amp is so touch responsive, and like someone else said, the burn sounds real good at low levels as well as cranke
