This is a video series about basic abstract algebra and group theory. We will keep it basic so that anyone can follow the videos.

This is the eleventh video in the series. We look more at some elementary number theory, and do a few examples.

  • I still say Archimedes >> {everyone}

The guy was so ahead of his time and would probably have discovered Calculus or some form of it ( he was already working with infinite partitions), if he weren't prematurely killed.

  • I agree. He was probably the greatest genius that ever walked on this planet, along with Newton and Gauss.

  • LOVE that you used NIN for music

  • I'm a fan.

  • Aw, man--don't mess with Einstein! lol

  • This was easy too

I think I like number theory.

My theory is that there is a number. LOL

  • at 0:44 isn't 4 - 16 = -12 ; thanks

  • You should write your own abstract algebra book. The way my book reads and the order it is presented, will have you literally pulling your hair out. You should think about it. Seriously.

  • @ShirtRipperT My favorite is Euler. The man was so creative and prolific. (not saying Archimedes wasn't)

  • i think euler was the greatest mathematician.

  • Notation is an invention of humans. The theorems behind it is not.

  • Thanks for making this video. It helped me out a lot. I appreciate it.

  • Gauss commented once "notation means nothing, notion is everything" Although this sounds very romantic it's not really true. It's much easier to do Liebniz calculus than it is to do Newtons calculus because of superior notation of Liebniz.

  • GAUSS > EINSTEIN

    so brilliant, so true!

  • ahahahahh hilarious video especially at 3:45 your the champ!

  • As with a CD, you do have a limited amount of possible values you can read on the surface on the CD. With the MODULO function, even if you get a number that isn,t in the set, you can correct it to a number that will be part of that set! :)

  • Ah, now i see where it is going when he talks about errors correction on a CD..... EUREKA!

  • The greatest mathematician to walk the face of the Earth was Leonard Euler. No doubt about it. You shouldn't underestimate Einstein, though. He's only comparable to Newton. Period. In many ways, Einstein was superior to Newton. Newton played dirty with Leibniz. That's a fact. Read about how he settled the issue of who discovered calculus first. He was indeed a genius, but it wasn't a fair play with Leibniz.

  • Read "The Archimedes Codex", ISBN 0306817373.

  • Absolutely the best ! Thanks again!

  • I like Riemann better than all of them. <3

    Gauss is awesome though.

  • Yeah Gauss is amazing.

  • Do you mean fuck or math?

Modularily speaking and according to this video, these two four letter words are equal since no matter what integer you divide them by, they'll always yield the same remainders.

So no, math is not above fuck.

  • Hahah, what a delightful ending. Even though I love them both, Gauss was simply... Gauss ^^ I read about this partition/mod/eq.relation stuff in my abstract algebra book. I thought it was cool, and I can't wait to see the next vid :-)
