@RossignolST the 1911 was actually designed in 1909; it's name comes from the year the US military adopted it, and the M9 (though introduced in 1976); didn't replace the 1911 until the early 80's.

@pepinozinanasshole Nope, The 1911 was designed by John Browning in 1911 and the model saw service in both world wars and was often in short supply. More than a few companies including Ithaca were contracted to produce the model 1911 .45 ACP for our troops. It was also in use in Korea and in VietNam before being replaced by the Beretta M9 in 1975.
The Springfield Armory 1911 A1 I own was made in 2002. The design remains nearly unchanged in 100 years of service! Excellent firearm!
