Spit XIVc vs Do335

Do335 fans - no, you're not safe.

I was reading up on the 335 and found out that while it's fast, its maximum speed is atrocious at sea level - about the same as a mid-war 109 - so I decided to see just how much difference it makes fighting them down low. I was flying a Spit Mk.XIVc but I have caught up with one online in a IXc, before shooting it down.

Notice how helpless it is down low - if it climbs, I can catch up; if it tries to run away, I can catch up; if it tries to get into a turning fight... uh, yeah. Most fighters are in trouble if they're in a turning fight with a Spit, let alone this thing.

The Spit has wicked stall and spin characteristics also and narrow gear. Now the 335 has 4000 hp with single engine frontal area, HP flaps. docile landing characteristics, tricycle gear and a reverseable pitch prop for short field operations. An engineering marvel

The spit Mk 14 was about as rare as the Dornier 335. Two Squadrons got them in the ETO. The Spit 9 was the common mount. My favorite was the Hawker Tempest V. A much better kite.

marcelo5252, you seem to be one of those LW fanboys who considers anyone with even the slightest liking for the Spitfire some kind of inferior being which spends the majority of its time drooling over how many AI planes it can down.

I don't claim to be some kind of aerial combat god, and nor do I claim the Spitfire to be perfect (unlike you lot and your precious 109s); I made this simply to demonstrate that the 335 isn't always untouchable as people seem to think. Get off your high horse.

The MKXIVc is a beast, but i love it.

have you tried 50% fuel and an ext tank?

Ive found I can fly forever with one then drop it when I get into a fight.

It seems that most gameplayers forget that a Spit will out-turn everything it can't outrun; I am usually shouting at the screen, "Just hold the turn, they can't stay with you!" during Spit 1 on 1's.
