The plastic bag helps the kiddos maintain an adequate body temp. He's most likely on a warming table as well, to help out with temp regulation. Looks like he's doing great! What a fighter. I wish all 28 weekers came out looking like him.

Ahhh, i love watching these, this gave me tears actually.... I gave birth at 26+5 via emergency c section, my lil man was 1005grams (2lb 3.5oz) we spent 87days in NICU, came home 6days before his due date!
All your premmie families, you are all amazing!! :)

Thanks for putting this video on. I'm trying to get back to NICU nursing after years away (having my own children), but I was at the Rosie Maternity in Cambridge, England, in 1984 when Colin Morley worked there, and I'll never forget everybody there. :)

@Babyfullable : Congratulations, good on you!! Yes, wow... isn't it an incredible feeling those natural endorphins were fantastic ..loved that feeling, felt like superwoman for ages after my Number two with everything almost identical to yours, no drugs etc.38 weeks, 8lb. it did so so very much to counter and repair the experience of my premmie. all the best with bubs! :) nic

yes 8Lb :0 was very happy when she eventually emerged - drug free too so i was feeling super human for weeks on the endorphins. Its amazing how little control over the entire pregnancy & birth process we hav. Just cross our fingers and hope that the outcome however they arrive is good for the kid! It was great that the monitoring of kaiden was able to save his life, i'd not heard of that virus, will have to look it up now... and my 5yr old will also be at school next year they grow up too fast!

WOW, born so early but a really good weight! My son was 1.76kg at 34wks- emergency c-section, born extremely sick and not expected to live. Thankfully he was a fighter and is now 4yrs 4mths, Global Developmental Delay and hearing loss to both ears (cochlea implant fitted in April 2010, second implant next Thursday)- does your son have any issues from his prematurity? Can i ask what caused his early arrival?

@AussieMummySince07 - Thanks for your story, The impants I'll guess are making a huge difference to his life (go aussie inventions!). I'm sorry your son's start was so traumatic. My boy thankfully has no ongoing issues. we were very fortunate to keep him after nearly loosing him at 22 weeks due to cervical incompetence. then all looking good after 6 weeks on my back spontaneous labour?!? Why? no one could say. 3.5 years later & another preventative stitch bub#2 went full term no problem!! :)

@skaternic007 Oh yeah- his first implant has made a DRAMATIC difference! Here's hoping the second will be just as significant! (im in Australia too BTW)- his speech is quite delayed but getting better and better :)
Thats fantastic your son has no complications from being born so early- these premmies are pretty tough!
At least with your second you knew about the cervix issue, thats fantastic you went to term! I went 40+5 with my daughter and she was a petite but 100% healthy 6lb 15oz :)

@AussieMummySince07- give him a couple of years with his new ears and he'll be great!! that's wonderful. but these little girls are tough, not too keen on coming out either... He he. I recall the nurses saying most premmies are boys.. i wonder why. glad my doc thought that 38 weeks was enough for #2 she was already just over 8lb and delivered naturally too which was great for mentall healing after the emergency c for her big brother.
