thanks for this useful video but i have two questions , first what kind of material do you use is it poly/cotton or cotton? and second is it ok to put the gesso first and then stretch it or stretch it good and then put the go it?

@MichiganTreasure i use either tapered wood, or i put a length of beading around the edge otf the stretcher. Also, i do stretch the canvas quite taught when i staple it, then when it is primed, it gives a perfect flat, tight surface, too loose and the paint (esp oils) will cause inconsistancies in the surface

fucking brilliant video, thank you for posting. other youtube vids on this are completely insufferable bullshit. one small suggestion: change the camera angle so whats going on isnt being blocked (happens a few times in vid). thx! (oh, and get a camera that records sound :P)

Hi, nice video.

The only problem is these studs will show under the canvas in time. You need a raised edge to hold the canvas away from the bars.

You should smooth the edges on the inside of the canvas frame too so you don't get lines on your canvas for when your painting.
