I agree co7in...the west is destroying the beauty and sanity of this world....everything is just dog eat dog, hatred, racism, bigotry, and closed mindedness....If people lived the way they did in polynesia, we'd be a happy planet!

@kiwirap best way to be sure your wood wont split is if you let it dry with the bark still on it for a year

im tryn to carve a taiaha but one of bits of wood split... any idea how long does the wood take to dry b4 ya can strip the bark off?

@kiwirap kia ora ehoa, nga mihi, I would recommend selecting a split free native wood, try Maire or Rata especially for a taiaha depending if its function or display,
if display can use totara, Taiaha are hard to come by these days, & most carvers are tested when carving one, cheers

@lunhil12 tena koe ehoa, the wood in the video is mainly totara (google it) but we also carve others like Kauri, Matai, Rata for weapons & a few others, cheers

Love the music......Just can't break away from it. The carving is so awesome and the fellow at 1:36 does a little flirt so cute. I've watched many wood carving videos and this is about the most relaxed one I've seen. Some will go into great detail about a 100 ways to gouge yourself. Enough to scare the willies out of the new carver. Any hobby a person pursues has safety issues attached.

@marle2242 tena koe, to many mind no good for the wood, most of the carvers there would only cut themselves a dozen times over a period of 3years, * if they did its because they mind was somewhere else, ae still love this song, AMiGO black slate.. cheers
