Dr. Dick Kurzhals

Commencement Speech in 2005. Dick was a member of the Social Science Division/Department and taught Geography and Political Science beginning in 1966. He retired in 2002 and was the 2005 recipient of the GRCC Emeritus Faculty Award. The Social Science Department has instituted a scholarship with funds Dick donated from that award. The inaugural recipient of the Dick Kurzhals Scholarship was identified last spring, and Dick was delighted that his generosity would allow students to further their studies here. He served in various roles in the GRCC Faculty Association, as Interim Department Head from 1998 2002, and was instrumental in bringing the Academic Senate (the forerunner to Academic Governing Council) to fruition.

Dick had a keen intellect, a great sense of humor and the quality he took the most pride in he was a master teacher.
