ok the song was written severel years ago when it was announced that china was to be hosting the bejing olympics. which many people opposed due to chinas pretty appaling historic, and ongoing human rights record...
now i did not write it, so i cant say what tracey thought as she wrote it, only what she has said about it since, but the premise is that an olympics where being hosted in a country who are currently leading the world in one thing.. executions..

thefore if there was a competition, or olympic event for killing people china would win..
i know lot of americans have taken it personally, but the main point is that thousands of people are killed in china every year, often without proper trial, and for minor crimes..
the reason it was done in almost karaoke style is that at traceys gigs, the death penalty song, because of maybe its tempo, the chorus reading out countries, almost became a singalong in a very strange ironic way..

obviously its not a happy song, hence the singalong aspect was so ironic.. its then that the idea of a singalong web version came about...
