Evelyn Waugh was one of the most brilliant and funniest writers who ever lived. If he doesn`t get the recognition he deserves, it is because he happened to hold reactionary social views.

"Feather-footed through the plashy fen passes the questing vole" was once much-quoted
for its delightful affectation. Waugh, though an arrogant snob. has made me laugh probably more than any other writer. A dramatised version of his first novel "Decline and Fall" is currently (May 18th 2010) being broadcast daily on the BBC, also accessible on-line.

Exquisite prose. Waugh was a ghastly shit, but a great writer!
