  • Is there any wonder why I love running? These two guys are the real deal--no drugs, no excuses--a hard work ethic pays off! And they are both so well-spoken--take note current NBAers and NFLers--these guys don't overuse words such as "like" and "you know." They were good American athletes who stood for what is right with the USA--they ran and loved their country.

  • It's almost a fantasy to think a network once paid this much attention to cross country running. It would be nice if it could happen again.

  • When Pat Porter said 'rest on Wednesday' or Friday it was acutally a ten mile run. I remember there were no days without running at Adams State. In my two years, before being cut for not running ten miles in 55 minutes, we only went once to the sand dunes for a work out. It wasn't even a work out at that. We played around.

  • I remember reading about Pat Porter in Runners World in 84 or 85 when I was 13 or 14 and just starting to train seriously. I think that I read the entire article with my jaw dropped. I could not believe the intensity to which this guy was training, all at 7500 foot altitude. Porter was defined "work ethic". Whenever I needed a little motivation over the next couple of years I read that article again. I just wish he could have won the World X-C Championship like he dreamed of.

  • Tue. Mountain run above tree line

    Wed. Easy

    Thurs. Mile repets 6

2010 same training exactly for adams state.

    Former ASC ath.

  • Craig Virgin - an unsung hero in American distance running!

  • Thanks for posting! Hard indeed to believe that this was ever on network television, but I remember watching a lot of distance running on TV years ago. Craig Virgin was perhaps the worst victim of the 1980 Olympic boycott. WIth his World XC victories and his #2 world rankings in the 10000 in '79 and '80, he had a great shot at gold and certainly a medal.

  • That's only 5 or 6 days and 50 to 65 miles a week for Pat Porter.

  • Nice video and beautiful running strides
