Browning also took a no-hitter to the ninth against the Padres about three months before the perfect game, giving up a one out single to Tony Gwynn in a game the Reds led 12-0. Browning refused to simply pitch around a guy who was probably the best hitter in the league. Also threw a one hitter against the Cubs in 1986.

Browning took a perfect game to the bottom of the ninth at Veterans Stadium in Philly the next season, but Dickie Thon broke it up with a leadoff double. No one has ever pitched two perfect games, but for all I know Browning came the closest.
