Today we go in a different direction and talk about Applying Excerpts and the issues that can arise when it comes time to performing them with orchestras. Specifically, we talk about the xylophone solo in Stravinskys famous Firebird (ballet version of 1910).

  • Thank you for this video. I have never had the chance to perform in an orchestra. It's videos like this that inspire me to still try to perform in one someday. I agree the xylophone is underrated. I would love to see an unaccompanied xylo solo with no ragtime or excerpt influence. Thanks again!

  • Thank you! Appreciate the feedback and the comment.

  • I just want to say that you have no idea how nice is those youtube lessons that you have been posted on youtube. I leave in a place in Brazil that we don't have so much access to those things and I have watch all of your videos here ... This have helped me a lot. • My favorite xylophone excerpt is definitely a tie between An American in Paris and the Mothergoose Suite.
