From the November 18, 1970 Johnny Cash Show, guest Lorne Greene (Pa Cartwright of TV's long-running "Bonanza") channels his inner Robert Goulet, mixing an earnest cover of Bob Dylan's "The Times They Are A-Changin'" with a dramatic reading of the hippie call-to-arms "Desiderata." You will believe it's 1969 again, and you've accidentally eaten some of the brown acid.

  • Desiderata (Latin: "desired things", plural of desideratum) is a 1927 prose poem by American writer Max Ehrmann (1872-1945) in 1927. The statements made in this poem are as true today as they were when they were written. Hippie call to arms? Acid? What have you been smokin'? This poem has replaced "The Lords Prayer" in my home. Its more a code of ethics than anything else.
