Thief (1981) Part 6.0

Part 6 of "Thief" from 1981. Sorry about the short clip, but the video glitches were crashing my Window Movie Maker program. So I had put this first 7 minutes up, then do a few seconds of trimming and post the last 3 minutes, listed as Part 6.1.

Frank continues getting his ducks in a row, meeting up with Barry, his electronics guy, trying to figure out what the final security stages are inside the vault room. But before this, Frank has to make a court visit for his buddy/mentor Okla (Willie Nelson) to see if he can "convince" the judge to let Okla out early for health reasons...and when I mean by "convince," I'm not referring to just oral arguments, but via not-so-subtle bribery!

As I said earlier in the film, this movie feels more like a 70's action film, and you can definitely see how a lot of Mann's earlier work for cop TV shows appears in bits and pieces of this film. But at the same time, you also can see a LOT of touches in this film that carried over to Mann's seminal work in "Miami Vice." The heavy use of music to set the scene is a classic Mann stylistic touch. So if love that series, you'll definitely enjoy this film. In fact, it almost feels like a Miami Vice episode...set in Chicago, though.

Although it's not as prominent in this film, Mann also makes extensive use of the cities in his film. Simply put, the city is almost another character in the film. This can definitely be seen in films like "Collateral" or "Heat."
