In Edinburgh in front of the parliament building at Holyrood, the organiser of the Glasgow SOS Campaign Richie Venton speaks on why the Save Our Schools campaigners have decided to target the MSPs in the Scottish Parliament. Although Councils technically have control over local issues like schools, in this drastic case where the Glasgow councillors have voted to close so many schools which would force young children onto long and dangerous routes to overcrowded schools with less teachers and in worse buildings including an asbestos-ridden building, campaigners in desperation to protect their children from danger and their community from disintegrating, have turned to lobbying the Scottish Parliament in the hope that the MSPs will put pressure on the councillors to change their minds. Some campaigners went inside the parliament building and met with MSPs. They persuaded five MSPs to pledge to condemn and campaign against the closures in the parliament. It is hoped that this will start the ball rolling and that many more in opposition parties plus a few from the Labour party will join in and pledge support.
