One of the oldest 'murder' ballads around.
I learned it from a Mississippi John Hurt recording and thought the banjolele would be a nice change to bring this song.

This song is part of my ebook/tablature called
"Fingerpicking Blues Ukulele" Volume 1
You can get it at my website
http://www.daddystovepipe.com

Here's a introductory video about volume 2

Here's the video lesson (accompany to the tablature)

  • Brilliant! I'm just getting started on the uke and I love your version of Stagolee on the banjolele. Thank you so much for the lessons as well. What kind of banjolele are you playing? It has fantastic tone.

  • @River6Actual

Thanks for the kind words - I bought the banjolele on ebay, I only know it's old...

If you love the uke lessons, don't forget you can get the tab to the 6 lessons for only €7.5 in total.

  • great!! (Didn't Cliff Edwards do a Stack'olee song?)

  • Thanks all!

Yes, Cliff did a great swinging version (it's on the Yazoo lp); he added so much verses it became a song in two parts.

  • Super..

  • The Best!!!

  • Very talented player, GREAT Channel !

  • this is great !

  • You are SOooooo weird to do this Mississippi John Hurt version -- already one of the outlier versions, off the main track -- on this insane little banjolele, and then WEARING THAT HAT! You're way over the top. I just such a kick out of this i cannot tell you. I'm old enough to have met with and watched John Hurt play many times, and i think if he saw this he would be nonplussed. And that ending chord! YOW! Shades of Jimmy Yancy! Whew.

  • Banjolele!! mooi man! Kwillerookzo1!

  • *****Great - like usual but not usual!

  • ha! you and your instruments(not to mention playing of them). well done. saw beck do that song on the late show once.
