This is painful really dreadful to watch -not the documentary that is brilliant; really interesting - -its the people, the loss of life, the fake agency smiles, the pasty faces and attitudes, truly depressing!

Employers need to take their share of the blame for the current situation - it's no real surprise that some would rather stay on benefits than risk getting laid off at the drop of a hat because the boss wants to save money in the short-term. Workfare will only make matters worse because firms will just go for the cheaper option of getting JSA slaves to do the work rather than actually employing them full-time. Before long, there will be no real jobs left, just Workfare placements!

You're talking about the US and Australia. This documentary is about UK benefits.

I was unemployed for 2 years. Was the most depressing time of my life. I am so glad I got out of the US. Atleast here in Australia if I loose my job I won't loose my apartment and food. Screw the US seriously.

I ain't sayin I wouldn't be frustrated or angry, I'd go home slam the door and cry/ rant. But I would never show that to an employer, I would sweetly ask for feedback, references and possibilities for work in the future, then add it to my CV.

I do understand the guys feelings towards being dropped but his reaction didn't help any at all. I would have used those few weeks to network, asked for a recommendation and to be considered for opportunities in the future. Flinging gloves and a bin bag at an employer when you're desperate for work is shutting the door on yourself.

The woman at the start makes a good point.. benefits ARE stable. Maybe if employers were less driven by greed and actually valued employees and people in general, paid them a fair wage for their work (which they CAN afford to do and still make generous profits), and gave them more rights, offered more stability and treated people with more respect then I think people would be more inclined to come off benefits (if able to).
