We shouldn't expect politicians to have memories the size of Wikipedia, they all make mistakes. However that's what they have speechwriters and checkers for, to edit out any potential gaffes. Palin's problem here is that she doesn't take kindly to being corrected, doesn't employ staff who are allowed to do this and instinctively responds to criticism by playing to her core support rather than trying to sound reasonable and rational to floating voters.
