(CNN 1/04/2008)

President Bush spoke to reporters Friday after getting an update from his top economic advisers, who are helping him decide whether to offer a package to stimulate the U.S. economy as it weathers the housing slump, rising oil prices and an uptick in unemployment.

"This economy of ours is on a solid foundation, but we can't take economic growth for granted," Bush said. "And there are signs that will cause us to be ever more diligent and make sure that good policies come out of Washington."

Vice President Dick Cheney and other White House officials joined Bush in his meeting with his working group on financial markets, an interagency panel led by Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson that meets regularly to discuss market conditions and regulatory policy. Others around the table included: Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke; Chris Cox, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission; Walt Lukken, acting director of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission; Ed Lazear, chairman of the president's Council of Economic Advisers; and Treasury Undersecretary Robert Steel.

  • brainious:"The poster of this video understands less about the economy than even Bush does.CORE inflation specifically excludes volatile price fluctuations including food and energy..."

Yes, Core inflation does indeed exclude these items...but why?

It is deception to exclude the biggest chunks of the economy...you pay for them, I do, so how can these big dollar markets be excluded, and how can you expect an accurate measure of the economy without them?

  • You can get higher inflation by lack of supply as well. lol at Bernanke being left. When it comes to expanding the economy there is no right or left.

  • First of all Inlfation is not a rise in prices, its a rise in the money supply, which causes a rise in prices. When Bush spoke about inflation he was correct it wasn't out the ass as democrat leftwing scum Bernake would make it through a doing all his own as Chairman of the gov cartel known as the fe reserve. Bush didn't approve of credit expansion, and defecit inflationary spending, leftists did, he was pulled by his balls across that line for certain reasons.

  • you can thank the neo-cons

  • Freedom is slavery. What does Bush have to say about the recent market crash.

  • America needs to free America first buddy.

  • well make war then you can build bombs and have jobs isnt this what you bing doing all along

  • boy is the bullshit deep.

  • The economy is not on a solid foundation. The president talks about citizens in terms of consumers. This president does not understand the constitution. There is NO LAW governing credit scores. If a citizen does not become a consumer they will not be able to gain adequate employment. The system puts citizens that want to save in the unavailable list for employment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is up to Congress to represent the people and put these loan sharks out of business!!!!!!!!!!

  • During the recent rice riots in India, their government banned futures trading in rice. Could someone shed light on why Washington cant do the same with oil?. All countries are now hurting very badly from the high cost of gas which in short order will bring about world wide recession and starvation to several billion people. WHILE exxon is taking in hundreds of billions per quarter in profits by picking the pockets of every human being on this planet. THIS IS BEYOND TREASON AGAINST HUMANITY.
