I don't get all the "actors back then are better than the actors today" talk... lol!... Sounds like what Gloria Desmond said about the actresses during the 1950s... "We didn't need dialogue. We had faces." :p At least Billy Wilder thought it was silly...

"Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy night" is the line of all lines in American cinema, delivered by the most iconic actress the world will EVER know. Everyone is great and say what you what about anyone, she is the archetype of an actor displaying all the necessary requirements. It's a sin she didn't win the Oscar for best actress that year, although she was nominated, but she was punished by The Academy. She even coined the term "Oscar" for God's sake. Thelma Ritter is amazing.

Thou Swell from A Connecticut Yankee (1927), Lyrics by Lorenz Hart, music by Richard Rodgers is being played while Bette delivers he famous line. The music is befitting an Park Avenue soiree of the era...what better way to begin an evening than a selection from Rogers & Hart! (Standard modus operandi for the era.)

The timing of that music starting up and then that fabulous line being delivered is enchanting.

"Fasten your seat belts it's going to be a bumpy night" yep. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but Eve Harrington is a wolf in sheeps clothing - give me mouthy, bolshie Margot Channing any day of the week. Great film.

I wouldn´t say that actors back then had been better actors than actors today, but definitively stronger personalities. Many of them had been poor in their childhoods, and knew more about war and misery than actors today. - Today actors want to play drama, but never have seen a corpse in their life.
