Caruso died 1921 and turandot was finished 1926, if i remember correctly, thus making it quite difficult for caruso to ever perform this piece... Please make sure that all the singers on "the standard great tenor list" actualy sang the aria befor you try to bullshit us into beliving that you actualy know what you are talking about, or you might end up looking rather stupid...
@crapfacejoe: no shit abt pavarotti, he still remains the most effortless tenors of this era. No match for corelli's passion, but a truly epic voice. The performance I refer to is his last ever - when he was already terminally ill with cancer. The crowd, the atmosphere, the open-air orchestra, and the sheer grief and joy in his voice as he sung, with some difficulty, make it a genuine opera classic.
corelli and giacomini share first. next, del monaco, caruso, gigli(not the largest voice, but included because of a grand spirit for singing), galouzine, and some others in no order. i would also include atlantov if i could find a rendition of this. but corelli and giacomini gave/give true dramatic gravitas to this piece. the true tenore di forza/ tenore robusto is an endangered species.
