Craigslist ad leads to theft, then recovery of cell phones

A Rohnert Park man was beaten and robbed of several cell phones by a man who came to his apartment in response to a Craigslist advertisement, police said today.

Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Sgt. Art Sweeney said the theft happened Wednesday at an apartment on Arlen Drive.

The 36-year-old victim was punched several times in the face by the male suspect, Sweeney said. The thief stole several hundred dollars cash from the victim and three cell phones, including two iPhones, Sweeney said.

The victim followed the suspect who fled in a black Mitsubishi Eclipse occupied by two other males, Sweeney said. On Adrian Drive, the suspect got out of the car, told the victim to stop following him and placed a box containing the phones on the ground, Sweeney said.

The victim decided not to follow the suspect further after the driver of the Eclipse passed a stopped school bus that was transporting children, Sweeney said.

The victim had previously been robbed on Nov. 9 of an iPhone he advertised on Craigslist, Sweeney said. The suspect in that incident grabbed the phone off a coffee table in the apartment and fled in a black Mitsubishi Eclipse, Sweeney said.

After that robbery, the victim installed a surveillance camera above his front door entrance, and he has posted video of Wednesday's robbery, with a $1,500 reward, on YouTube, Sweeney said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the two robberies to call (707) 584-2630.

Never invite ANYONE to your house off of C-list,always meet in a well lit/hi traffic area and take a buddy or two with you.Meet at your local Police station if you have to,usually shakes out the common criminal.Take a alternate longer route home, may seem like a pain but in the end you have a little bit more of a peace of mind.
