  • long beach used to be a place of fun, since then it has gone wayyy downhill. i pay big bucks to live on the boardwalk with ocean views and am surrounded by real trash that dont pay a thing because some genius decided to flood E. Broadway with section 8 housing. besides that, there isnt 1 shop, arcade, game or ride anywhere near the boardwalk anymore. there are still some fun things about LB like the annual polar bear dive and that amazing summer crowd, but nothing like it used to be :(

  • @ronniemass At the same time, there was a time when people could not walk on the boardwalk after 9 pm without the worry of getting mugged and worse. Long Beach was dirty and decrepit in the 70's and 80's. Mentally disabled housing lined the boardwalk, fights all the time, etc, etc. Long Beach has come a Looooong way and is one of the hottest spots in New York. Dont get me wrong, I used to love the wild times when I was young and I cant stand the lack of parking from over crowding and tourist's.

  • @ronniemass (continued) But you have to take some bad for a lot of good. I love it here and there's no place I'd rather call home.

  • Just so everyone knows...this isnt the original soundtrack that I made for this video. Youtube removed my audio (Frank Sinatra, The Wanderers and thr Beatles. If you would like an original copy let me know. Thanks...Rob R (Sonny Boy Pics)

  • Thank you for this wonderful reminder of how nice it is to live here. I grew up on the North Shore, which is beautiful also, but nothing compares to Long Beach. There are weekends where I don't use my car at all - everything is in walking distance.

Great slideshow - you should send it to Channel 12!

  • Thank you very much. Thats an idea (channel 12). I am actually working on a mini documentary of Long Beach. Probably going to take me a year to complete. Keep an eye out for it. Thank you once again.....

    Robert.

  • Who remembers The Beachburger? Gino's Pizza was / is the BEST. I grew up in Long Beach, went to Long Beach High. My family had the last surviving bath house there, The Surf Club, next to The Bowling Alley before it burnt down. Have been trying to track down some photos of it but haven't had any luck. If anyone knows of or has any photos please email me femail@atheana.com :-)

  • when it became multivision...an early video/recording studio, i recorded there.. shame.. it should have been kept as a theatre and restored! it was designed by the same architect who did carnegie hall! so much history was lost there

  • loved this vid!! we lived there for most of our childhood...70's was so much fun for me and my kid brother!! loved the laurel theatre!!! so many movies and fun times we spent there every weekend! hey,. no shots of the grand lido hotel?? there's a lot of history there too..but thanks for this.. loved the boardwalk arcade/amusement park rides... cried when they closed... also when the laurel theatre closed.. laurel luncheonette had the BEST breakfast and lunch specials! great days

  • god i miss my hometown!

  • @neverknewtillnow FYI, "City by the Sea" was filmed in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The appearance of the real estate shown in the film does not match what Long Beach looks like today (and there is debate about whether it even looked like that at the time the film is said to take place).

  • Omg I really don't like living in LB that much, I mean it's ok lol.

  • I just watched the movie"City By The Sea" a story about Long Beach and it struck me how ocean real estate was allowed to fall in such disrepair as shown in the film, I imagine the hurricane had something to do with the decline.

    Great presentation!
