Why don't you explain what is wrong with using FARS stats, and explain where any "other" stats are coming from? The simple fact is that no one anywhere is using stats that came from anywhere but FARS.
All. National. Road. Fatality. Stats. Come. From. FARS.
When FARS-sourced stats disagree, it is often because of equivocation.
@wolf9walker "I looked up several different sites"
And how many people did they say died on the roads in 2009?
"and they pretty much said the same."
It is a popular urban-legend that 50,000, or 40,000, or 53,000 people die on the roads each year. Also ESC is new. Do you know what ESC is?
iihs. org/ratings/esc/esc. aspx
In model-year 1997, only 1% of new vehicles came standard with ESC. In 2003, it was 19%. In 2006, 41%. In 2009, 74%. That is why fatality-rates have crashed recently.
Today's vehicle-mile fatality rates are one-sixth what they were just 50 years ago -- and that includes the yearly 6,000 motorcycle fatalities that are basically by choice of the victim. Hardly anyone dies truly-accidentally on the road, anymore.
Meanwhile, 2.4 million Americans die every year -- and road accidents have virtually nothing to do with that.
@wolf9walker "That stats for the about 40,000 includes drivers, passengers, pedestrians and bicyclists."
And it is wrong. Only 33,963 drivers, passengers, pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists, truck-occupants, and bus-occupants died in road accidents, *including* accidents involving trucks, buses and trains. Your stats are way off.
"too many people die in traffic accidents"
That would depend on how much money would need to be spent to save them, and how much they were worth to society.
@hitssquad That stats for the about 40,000 includes drivers, passengers, pedestrians and bicyclists. Either way it doesnt matter how many people have died 30,000-40,000, what matters is too many people die in traffic accidents, and most is because people are not paying attention. Im not just talking about autos; Im also talking about trucks, motorcycles, bicyclists and pedestrians.
@wolf9walker "about 40,000 people die in car only accidents."
About 15,000 car-occupants die in accidents each year.

There aren't even 40,000 motor-vehicle fatalities.
google. com/search?q=fars+811291+pdf
"A statistical projection of traffic fatalities in 2009 shows that an estimated 33,963 people died in motor vehicle traffic crashes. This represents a decline of about 8.9 percent as compared to the 37,261 fatalities that occurred in 2008, as shown in Table 1."

@wold9walker "Yours can not be off?"
They're not my stats. They're from FARS.

@hitssquad Your stats are way off.
Are they? Yours can not be off? I looked up several different sites, and they pretty much said the same. So their stats are off.
how much money worth to society
well how much are you and your family worth? since anyone rich or poor(good or bad) can be in an accident.
2.4 million Americans die, road accidents, virtually nothing
thats for another vid, this vid is not about those deaths.

14,587 passenger-car occupants died in accidents in 2008.

The number should be a lot lower for 2009, but the data isn't in yet.

@RayAir1 about 5,000 people die in truck evolved accidents (most are caused my cars) and about 40,000 people die in car only accidents.
