  • Look at the young girls in the video -- they are not engaged and are having trouble following what's being sung. I'm no fan of Novo Ordus rites but Tridentine ritual is flawed and is not ancient. It was formulated in the 16th c. by the Council of Trent in reaction to the Protestant Reformation. Just because something is old does make it better than something that's new. Vatican II made many badly needed changes in the church but many good things that it promoted have gone awry & been abused...

  • Yes, look at the girls, they are learning and are being formed. Compare them to the Novus Ordo girls. The New Rite does not support Catholic Doctrine, whereas the Tridentine Rite does. In 1570 Pope St. Pius V revised and codified the Roman Rite of the Mass in the bull QUO PRIMUM. It is important to bear in mind that Pope St. Pius V did not institute the Tridentine Mass, but he merely restored and codified the immemorial Roman Rite of the Mass.

  • In use 1,000 before it was codified. St. Peter Canisius, Doctor of the Church, Wrote: "It behooves us unanimously and inviolably to observe the ecclesiastical traditions, whether codified or simply retained by the customary practice of the Church." St. Peter Damien, also a Doctor of the Church: "It is unlawful to alter the established customs of the Church...Remove not the ancient landmarks which thy fathers have set." This doctrine is the infallible teaching of the Catholic Church.

  • Obsolete Tridentine ritual wasted on a younger generation... Why not sing in English with some Latin. Fr. Cooper does more harm than good, methinks...

  • No, Latin and the Tridentine Rite is not wasted on any generation. If Fr. Cooper is wrong, then the pervious 2,000 years of Church history was wrong. What is wrong is Vatican II and what came out of it. By their fruits you will know them eh? If this keeps up pretty soon you will have a Vatican II pope saying it’s okay to use condoms, and people will take from that statement what they want to – and how many souls will be lost then?

  • @Oblationem The revised rites of Vatican II have accompanied the disintegration of Catholicism as we have known it for centuries. The promised renewal has failed.

  • @yardgoods Not exactly. The Breviary of St. Pius V was closer to the medieval breviaries that preceded it than anything in use today. This is especially true of the psalter, which St. Pius X abolished 100 years ago.

  • I love the hair coverings, They are modern and look really cool! Something the young girls wouldn't mind wearing!

  • The majority of Catholics (especially young Catholics) do not have any experience with the Divine Office at all, whether in Latin or in English. Therefore, most people wouldn't know the liturgical postures, psalm tones, chant, and rites proper to the the chanting of Solemn Vespers. It is no wonder that these girls would be in the same boat as many adults. This is not a shortfall of Liturgical Tradition, it is just human ignorance of the rites of Holy Church.

  • Fr. Cooper is so much in love with the Catholic Religion! If only I have that grace.
