Romania is a country located in Southeastern and Central Europe, North of the Balkan Peninsula, on the Lower Danube, within and outside the Carpathian arch, bordering on the Black Sea. Almost all of the Danube Delta is located within its territory. Romania shares a border with Hungary and Serbia to the west, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova to the northeast, and Bulgaria to the south.
Romania emerged as a personal union of the principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia under prince Alexander John Cuza in 1859 and as the Kingdom of Romania under the Hohenzollern monarchy, it gained recognition of its independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1878. In 1918, at the end of the World War I, Transylvania, Bukovina and Bessarabia were united with the Kingdom of Romania. At the end of World War II, parts of its territories (roughly the present day Republic of Moldova) were occupied by the USSR and Romania became a socialist republic, member of the Warsaw Pact.
With the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989, Romania started a series of political and economic reforms. After a decade of post-revolution economic problems, Romania made economic reforms such as low flat tax rates in 2005 and joined the European Union on January 1, 2007. While Romania's income level remains one of the lowest in the European Union, reforms have increased the growth speed. Romania is now an upper-middle income country economy.
Romania has the 9th largest territory and the 7th largest population (with 21.5 million people)[4] among the European Union member states. Its capital and largest city is Bucharest, the 6th largest city in the EU with 1.9 million people. In 2007, Sibiu, a city in Transylvania, was chosen as a European Capital of Culture. Romania also joined NATO on March 29, 2004, and is also a member of the Latin Union, of the Francophonie, of the OSCE and of the United Nations, as well as an associate member of the CPLP. Romania is a semi-presidential unitary state.

Do not judge Romania and Romanians only cause you see some very mean articles at TV news or you hear from other people about what is happening there in Romania.
Many good things happen in Romania, and why nobody says a word about them? Beautiful traditions, beautiful and young people with visions and hopes that make the Romanian people proud. Instead of accusing and cursing we should all do something to improve the situation and the image of our countries and especially Romania´s image.

On the other side I love Romania, it is a very beautiful place, and I never had problems there with dogs or other people. It is a rather modern country but with some issues that can be easily solved with a good cooperation between people, and with good and honest leaders.
And I think that many foreigners do not make the difference between street dogs and pets, pets are not dangerous, but street dogs can be. And please foreigners that were in Romania only in visit, DO NOT JUDGE.

About the dogs problems, I lived in Bucharest and I´ve noticed that there are many many dogs on the streets. It is very dangerous sometimes, especially in the night time. You can easy meet a group of 7 dogs in the night time, so I totally understand Romanians that they are afraid of them. Of course I don´t agree with killing, but since Romania is not a very rich country, it is better to protect the people. They could sterilize all the dogs and with time the number will be smaller.

Jesus Christ, I wonder if there is anywhere on this Youtube site a single video about Romania, where people is not fighting and cursing. If people is not fighting about dogs, they fight when it comes with Hungarians and Romanians and Gypsies. For God sake...

@darkangel57821 majority of Romanians who have dogs would have done what I did, but the problem is that many can not afford, because the average salary, nor reach 300 euros, and prices are almost as large as in ocident, many parents are hungry, just to be able to give children food, clothes and school, you know now? many have no choice, and are separated the dog, so if you really want to help dogs in romania, you can do more, but not the petition, or generalized judging or insulting

@darkangel57821 is easy to generalize and judge, you say that animals should be adopted, I agree with you, but so many, it's impossible to be all adopted (there are tens of thousands of stray dogs) many they are rabid, and are a danger to public health (many people were bitten even tourists) it is clear that some dog catcher, are wild, but majority of Romanians love animals, maybe more than English,

@bbphnix you dont have humanity nor a brain. some romanians do but you? no you even said its ok for senseless abuse of street dogs. here and in the civilized world we dont abuse street dogs we take them in and adopt them out. you are un-civilized and have not evolved for crap like most heartless romanians but as i have said some rise up and take in these dogs and stop dog catchers from abuse. you rep the bad side of romania.

@bbphnix kind of sucks that now people think of you as romania and you give them a bad name by starting all this crap by attacking someone. too bad i have romanian friends who even say the gov is ruthless and wrong in what they do and they take in strays like people with brains. but you represent all the hate in romania, you rep all the abusers that are dog catchers. you are the people the rest of the world hate :) you are the reason we petition against romania.
