Yes, this is old news - you don't have to tell me. However, I felt like making a video of this song in Kaeru no Tame ni in case anyone was interested in trying for themselves.

If you want to read about Totaka's songs, one of gaming's greatest secrets, check out:

  • maaaaaaan!!!

in 10 seconds i recognized 2 songs from links awakening in this game!!!!

what a lack of creativity totaka...

  • Heh. Well, the overworld theme as it appears in Link's Awakening is a reference to Kaeru (I won't spoil it for others). What other song do you mean? I know the games are similar stylistically (I assume the town or building but it's been a while since I played LA).

  • Excellent game...I'm angry this never made it into the U.S, it's a shame.

  • you know, they just ripped the exact music from Super Mario Land 2! if you compare the end of the game over track to this one, it is the same thing!

  • The beginning of the video sounds like the frog house from Link's Awakening.

  • shop theme reminds me of yoshi's story waltz theme

  • Actually, you heard right. The songs in this game have the exact same tune as some of the songs in Link's Awakening. Kazumi Totaka was the music composer for both games. This video was all about Totaka's Song, right? There's three different versions of that song in Link's Awakening, two of which you can find without hacking.

  • Yes, Kazumi Totaka likes to re-use some of his older tunes in newer styles.

...Have you ever heard of Totaka's Song?

  • I've noticed that for myself. Kazumi Totaka was the music composer for both games, so he must've used the exact same tunes in different styles for each game. It looks like Link's Awakening because that game was built using the exact same engine used for the Japanese game.

  • Yes, most people believe that's true. Kazumi Totaka was the music composer for both games, and if you listen to certain songs in this Japanese game, you'll notice that Link's Awakening has some songs with the exact same tune.

  • No, it was not. Sadly, they never created an English-translated version of it.

  • It's also in Mario Paint when you click the "O" on the title screen.

  • looks like the engine of links awakening
