U2 Sarajevo Kosevo Stadium Popmart Tour 23.09.1997

The famous Sarajevo concert by U2 in 23/9 1997, filmed from the stands. Bono had made a promise to the people of Bosnia-Herzegovina that he would come to Sarajevo with the band and play this concert, which is nowdays considered legendary both by the band and their fans in Sarajevo and the whole country.

The clip shows three songs: Pride (in the name of love), I still haven't found what I'm looking for and Stand by me.

In the beginning of the concert Bono lost his voice and asked the crowd to carry him and sing with him. Edge sings the chorus of the first song.

This concert was some sort of a turning point for the youth in Bosnia and Herzegovina, making them feel alive again and a part of Europe after almost 4 years of isolation during the Serbian and Croatian agression on Bosnia and Herzegovina.

To this day the people of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina remember this concert and will do so always. Everything that Bono and U2 did for the Bosnians remains in the hearts of everyone of us and for that we will forever be thankful!

Friend, I will tell you honestly that I never knew the whole story of Sarajevo and Bosnia. One night I went to search for the meaning of Miss Sarajevo with details, and I read the entire article. I learned some terrible things 'bout the War and I almost cried just by reading it. But I guess my tears were holdin' themselves for this moment, when I heard and saw this video. I think people like U2 folks prove one thing: the world is not lost at all, while we are here. Greetings from Brazil, friend.

I was there. I have this video at home as it was filmed by my colleague. He gave me the concert on VHS. I am like a couple of meters away from the taper. Someone mixed over different audio. Sounds a lot better.

I would trade all the shows I have been at my entire life, which is quite a few (and considering I am a huge Pearl Jam fan and follow them around, still), just to be there that night. What that must have meant to my Sarajlija brothers and sisters after so many years in despair. Nevjerovatno!
