Hello, first of all thanks for the comment, I'd be glad to help you.
The main reason why this new 360 was released was because of the design and airflow movement.
The openings on the side are much more open and bigger, though that doesn't really matter because this Xbox has a different chip, it cannot possibly overheat.
Yes it is safe to put your Xbox ON TOP of your decoder because the fans are on the other isde.
So far i haven't got any problems with this xbox and i recommend to you.
