"Blues in a Bottle" recorded by Prince Albert Hunt's (b.1900- d.1931) Texas Ramblers in San Antonio Texas in 1928. This record was a total surprise to me when I bought it. I almost left it 'cause of the Texas Ramblers I thought it was a country-western tune. But it had blues in the title so I went ahead and paid fifty cents for it. Wow! It just lights you up with the first note and doesn't quit. One of my all time faves.
The Lovin' Spoonful like it to.

  • great record Some time ago there was TV special on someone who was searching all over for this record like it was the Holy Grail.I must have seen it over 20 years ago. Thanks for posting.

  • Would love to see that show. Anyone got a copy they could post?

  • I see elsewhere that he was murdered in 1931outside of a bar in Dallas. He was quite a character if you google his name.

  • Thanks for commenting. I googled his name and your right some character! I guess you would have to be to write this song 80+ years ago.

  • Classic

  • Thanks for commenting. This was my best garage/yard sale find ever!

  • I don't think he sounds drunk, I think he sounds like Charlie Patton

  • This is excellent! Five stars!

  • you found this at a yard sale!?!

what a score! I'd always thought how his voice sounded so gin soaked with that graveled, rusty slickness.

never knew the legend was he was shitfaced....but yeah... I hear it too.

your record sounds great too. what kind of stylus and cartridge are you using?

  • Legend has it he was shitfaced drunk when he recorded this. I think I can hear it.
