  • How about 15 years of pollution free environment.dont just calculate the financial Return on investment.Count the investment on the environment. Think of 15 years of fossil free energy with zero pollution.

  • fucking whiner..

They are all over the place here.. right next to the roads ewen, people dont crash.. lol..

  • @ViciousMandy, I think turbine-pushers represent a disturbing type of anthropocentric environmentalism, which I find to be at odds with core principles of minimal impact.

If turbine towers were smokestacks they'd sing the opposite tune. Yes, CO2 emissions do matter, but they are only part of the human-impact problem. AGW will eventually come and go as fossil fuels deplete, but we'll still be left with eyesores all over the landscape. A classic Faustian bargain.

  • @cirovig1, "visual" IS a huge part of the environment, you techno-drone. There's the looming factor of their size, the shadow flicker, the red lights all night and the insidious noise that severely affects some locations. None of those impacts are imaginary.

I think "wind turbine impact denial" is no less willfully-ignorant than global warming denial. People like me are in denial of neither issue, since we know Man has a long history of "fixing" one problem by introducing another.

  • @Antithropocentric you are talking about VISUAL vs environment (alias health, co2 spewing etc) impact....i stand by what I said before...you are a moron.........

  • @cirovig1, its not a matter of wind vs. fossil fuels. Both have downsides and the visual impact of wind turbines is far worse overall. They are much less energy-dense that fossil fuel plants and take up FAR more total acreage of networked visual impact.

There was a 2009 Stanford study that suggested the world would need 3.8 MILLION turbines as part of a larger renewable energy plan to phase out oil. You can bet that millions of views would be severely compromised. Why wouldn't you care?

  • why are environmentalists so quick to froth at the mouth over turbines? if all that same time and money was put into developing and improving solar power on the roof of every home and building in the world we wouldn't need to fuck with the landscape

  • @thinkingthingsthru "no environmental impact"? you're taking the mickey right?.....or are you really stupid

  • you're an idiot........put in more smokestacks from a coal munching CO2 spewing plant.....enjoy the view and hope you get cancer ....moron

  • I love windturbines, beautiful slow moving, relaxing and clean. just give people that see it a discount on their electricity bill and they will aslo be happy. lots better then the risk of nuclear or coal.

there is one out of my office at 150mtr and I never hear it. only thing , give this guy a nuclear waste storage, and it all will look the same.

  • I cannot wait to hear this.

  • Some people really do talk garbage.

In the UK, these already run cheaper than nuclear and the older they get the cheaper they become. The overall working capacity of the turbines is 30% per anum of 5,738 MW. Soon 3x that.

They provide the grid locally, there are no massive power lines like you get from centralised power units.

However, if it's winter, windless and freezing then they are useless. Their only use is to aid the National debt payments when the wind blows.

  • Wind power is a scam. We have 2 wind towers in Moorhead Mn, Right across the river from Fargo ND. Let me tell you they are hardly ever running even on the windy days. Also to be "Hooked up" to them cost you an extra $15 a month.

  • @dbl88888 Actually fossil and nuclear generation produce a much better return on investment. They are reliable, cheap and have no environmental impact if designed and operated properly. Plus no one asks for tax dollars to build them and we can build them with American labor and parts. Funny how country's like India and southeast asian country's will make the blades, towers & electrical but not install them in their country's because it is such a waste of money and resources.

  • @piper4seeformerly This technology isn't practical. Way to expensive and not relaible. Massive amounts of Federal Dollars are invested in it. The majority of components are built overseas. You need to build long transmission lines to their sites. You can't produce power on demand. The induction generators they use cause instability on the grid. At best the they average a 25% capacity factor. This is one of the first things we need to cut out of the federal budget. Clean coal is the answer.

  • I hate to say it but this guy's opposing arguments seem a little pissy considering the benefit wind energy can provide. We need to get off the dime and start using this technology.

  • people want them but the put them in rural areas. not urban like so many live. no one wants to live near them. you can hear them for close to a half mile at all times and not to mention the power lines that carry the power to densely populated areas mostly on the coast. so the rural americans suffer while those in the citys can get a tiny bit of power. a wind farm in NH has some thing like 100 turbines. they can power the state for 1/2 a day with the power they make in a year sounds great lol

  • Actually wind energy is a horrendouse investment. It is coming in at about $2500 per installed KW. Problem is you can't produce power on demand. Per the EIA they only run at 20% capacity. To replace a low profile nuclear power plant you can't see from the expressway you would need about 5000(assuming 2.5 MW each) of these massive towers. The only one that are being built are government subsidized and they will cause much higher electric rates which hurts the poor and elderly the most.

  • Every Person who is against a renewable energy source should have an atomicpowerplant in his/her garden ... with a nice meltdown...

nobody wants atomic power... nobody wants a windturbine.... nobody wants a hydropowerplant... so go ahead an turn every electronicdevice off... and sit in your dark cold houses... and try to play with your Playstations...

  • @bannor99 I think something like the BP oil spill would be more dangerous to birds, and that was just one big one. There are dozens of smaller oil spills happening all over the world on a regular basis that don't get a lot of press coverage.

  • Some of that Photoshop work is pretty bad on his slides.

  • @NYC4U It's probably just a couple of guys that hate wind turbines so they invented a group with an official sounding name.

  • Ironic that this presentation was done by the Environmental Awareness Coalition. What do you suppose the continuation of burning coal for power will do to their environment?

  • Firstly, nice mullet! Secondly, do you ever listen to yourself speak? In the words of Antoine Dodson: You are so dumb.
