This is a song and video montage that articulates what Barack Obama's Presidency means to young African Americans.
Lyrics to Black House
Black House
Yeah I rocked the vote and felt the pride of the people
Obama spoke and had a brotha feeling quite regal
Not naïve like centuries of evil could dissolve
In the matters and the makings of a night
Far off and along from the sights of my grandparents
Who struggled everyday for the basic human rights I
Sit and reflect at a crossroads of time
Truly contemplating the beauty of their sacrifice
From Jim crow to civil rights to martin luthres
I have dream to Malcolm x by any means
And all the fallen soldiers that we never knew to
Appreciate because they escape from history
So im filled with a range of emotion
As history flash as I bear witness to this moment
As tears stream from my mommas eye
its an unspoken Acknowledge of black pride of black struggles
Of black pain Of broken system that was built on the backs black slaves
From a sistah who resisted with the courage to say mister I aint giving up my seat today
This conveys a much deeper understanding
While commanding my attention to barack omaba win
The symbolism of a black mans face on the tv
Helps me to identify my own strengths
To black youth who never had a role model nor a father
In the home who they could follow this is deep
The ideals and concepts of what impossible and what I can and cant achieve becomes obsolete
Its Ironic as I watch the commentary of
A iconic figure that reminds me of me
and most important the representation
And example of what functioning black family should be
So we broke down walls and built bridge
And hoped fences and traveled an inconceivable distance
And All people from different walks of life
Went to the voting booth as a symbol of resistance
I got my paint brush and my spray cans
I got my black house t mr uncle sam
And my team strong we highly educated
We jet set to dc cuz we elevated
we off 16 double 00 Pennsylvan
To paint the white house black as a symbol change
So just drop 1 20 so you can rock on 1 20 09
The best barack shirt that you ever seen
The paradox of it all is quite relevant
A city built by slaves that will house a black president
Black and im proud I stand on the capital lawn
fist in the air Like this is how I represent
This is the beginning of a new day
A new perspective to self improve and to bring change
To see this greatness will never face defeat
Theres one thing I know fasho freedom starts with me
That's what's up!!! I'm proud!!!

All day, Im proud to. We have achieved so many things as a people. Its wonderful to have all this positive media attention for a black man. We must take responsibility for ourselves and empower each other to be the best people we can be. Freedom starts...
