In 2003, a delegation from Cameroon visited Portland, Oregon as part of the World Affairs Council's International Visitors Program. That year, Alice Nkom, a member of the delegation, met the young leaders of the Oregon Bus Project, a local organization that engages new and young people in democracy through hands-on volunteerism. Inspired by the Bus Project, Nkom returned to Cameroon to found her own organization that has registered over 300,000 young people and women to vote. In February 2011, she returned to Portland to tell her story.
