Lyric Poem by Alexander Glazunov

This was the first piece I ever heard by him, and sparked a whole study of his oeuvre.

This is a very promising piece by the young Glazunov; written still under the spell of Balakirev, his first teacher. Compare it with Balakirev's Tamara or the slow movement of his First symphony. Anyway, i believe this piece could have influenced the young Debussy while he was working on his Prelude a l'Apres midi. Glazunov's Op. 12 was written and published (and thus available in Paris) some four years before Debussy started working on his ground-breaking Prelude...

@Strindberg07 I'm amazed you think the same thing, that it sounds a little like the Afternoon of a Faun! I almost mistook this work for Debussy the very first time I heard it. Ironically, Glazunov didn't find Afternoon of a Faun as very admirable.

Some of this sounds very similar to Glazunov's Raymonda. Perhaps he quoted himself for composition of the ballet?

@SaxonBiggy it probably sounds like some of his ballet music because he used this key for romanticism (take the Entr'acte from Act I). :-) I don't think he directly quoted himself though.
