Produced in 1993 as a student project. In 1993, the population of the possum was about 5000, in 2007 it is now approximately 2000. The possum is a victim of climate change. As the planet warms, less snow covers the possum during it's hibernation, it awakes earlier than it should, before it's food sources are ready. It has also been affected by recent bushfires in the Alpine areas of Victoria.

  • Very well done. Beautiful little animal. The film was made 14-15 years ago. Has this species survived? Is it better or worse off than it was back when the film was made -if it has survived?

  • Hi QBitties,

The Possum has reduced in numbers since I made the film, due to climate change and some large bushfires in 2005 and 2007. I believe the numbers are down to about 2000, from approximately 5000 in 1993.

  • More people should watch this. Hopefully this won't be the only way we will get to see the Pygmy Possum in the future.
