He was the head AIDS doc at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, California. CBS-TV doesn't pay for interviews and he has no financial interest in the drug.

12 years. More current research on the drug is described in "Point of Fear" on this channel. Typically, it takes 20 years for a breakthrough drug to get to market.
