Roodepoort 1st team 2011 (a true underdog story)

On the 23rd of June the 1st teams of Roodepoort Hoërskool and Helpmekaar College went head to head for the provincial championship.Over the years Helpmekaar recruited top players from rivaling schools to further strengthen their cause ,whilst weakening the opposition ,Roodepoort being one of the casualties losing 6 top athletes to Helpmekaar . Earlier in the year Helpmekaar thrashed the Roodepoort side with a full time score of 73-0 ,Nevertheless the Roodepoort side qualified for the finals to once again square off with the defending champions.To say it was a David and Goliath's tale would be an understatement as Roodepoort -Being a small public school- included eleven u17 boys in they're starting 15 where Helpmekaar fielded thirteen u18 boys.Determined to restore pride in the school badge and eager for vengeance the Roodepoort side almost pulled off what would have been a huge upset.This video is dedicated to that team.

I apologise we have 12 under 18 in our starting 15 with 1 only turning 18 in October. So what!

But please be so kind as to tell me who from Roodies besides the two I know of went to Helpmekaar.

My child asked to go to Helpmekaar for the education not the sport.

When we were in Roodies we lost every season to Helpmekaar and there never was an issue.

No all of a sudden there is an issue. I am so sick of Roodie issues with Helpmekaar.

@carolle180 Does it send a message to us that loyalty towards an institution like a school,a workplace,...or even a marriage is of no value,because there will always be someone to offer better or more? Loyalty means to Take whats is not perfect,and do your utmost to make is so.Loyalty builds personality and teaches us to endure hard times.It teaches us not to turn our backs on our school,our team or our jobs,but to fight for the better.

@carolle180 deepest pockets who step out the victor ,Its a sick system. What are we teaching our kids? Is it that money is set above all and that whatever comes after that, lags far behind? ,Is it that the God-given talent that a person receives,has a price so high that one will forsake loyalty to what was once yours? ,Is it the message that one need not work and strive to make what is yours ,better ,because well ,it's easier to abandon the attempt,and join a different cause?

Let me make it clear that I have no connections with Roodies and thus I do not speak for them in any regard,I was simply inspired by what they achieved.But I personally do have a problem with the recruitment strategy school like Helpmekaar exercise these days. There are actuall 7 which have left Roodepoort for helpmekaar. Three of them Marius Stander, Tarina Stander and Gerrit Janse van Rensburg left for academic reasons and not sport. I was just chance that Marius Stander got to play first team this year.

These three children were not bought by Helpmekaar as we still pay school fees and we approached Helpmekaar to register our children.
