  • Most of the jackets don't have floatation tanks, this one is floating on his own buoyancy

when installing gently fill the jacket legs with water (during upending) by openening valves.

we've just launched a jacket of 22.000 metric Tons, this one has 2 floatation tanks. each tank weights 800 tons :) which lateron should be removed.

  • Launching and auto self upending without using a crane barge. It reduces installation cost.

  • so how you want to insert and drive the piles? And install the topside?

  • A jacket is that large pipe structure you see going off the barge. The reason it is called a jacket is because it is the structure that hold pilons in place to support the weight of the topside and keep the pilons from bending. This will be used to hold an offshore production platform up in the middle of an ocean.

  • whats a jacket?

  • Sure it will afloat since it has its ballast attached on its sides.

Later a crane barge will approach and shift it to the destined position.

Place the anchors and install the top side....

  • wow, these are some massive structures. I wonder if these are what you sometimes see come out of the water when a platform rig falls on one side? Interesting to see how they are righted.

  • @chedballz How does the topside get attached?

  • We can use a special hammer to drive the piles. The hammer is designed special for offshore operation like that. And it is installed on a crane barge.
