Early in my career as a weekend meteorologist I covered Hurricane Lili. Lili was the most clostly storm of the 2002 Hurricane Season. The storm was expected to by a Category 4 upon landfall and cause far reaching economic and social impacts to western Arkansas. It weakened immediately before making landfall and it's impact was far less than expected.
The storm made landall on October 3rd, 2002. Patrick Marsh (now a researcher with NOAA/NSSL in Norman, OK) documented the storm with me. This was the 2nd story I shot, wrote, & edited. In hindsight, there were many safer places to be during a hurricane other than under a gas station awning. A little experience goes a long way.
