In high dressage competion classes it is a rule that you have to use a candar (to bits). The same rules is for the clothing and boots. When training the horses, many riders only use on bit. But in competion you are required to use candar.

I don't get it why dressage riders (not all but some) need to have 2 bits in a horse's mouth.

I mean isn't one bit (like a plain snaffle bit) enough to have in it's mouth?

I repect your opinion. But If a 1000+ pound animal didn't want to do something, do you think it would? And horses that are used for dressage have to have the mentality to WANT to do this stuff, they could'nt handle the training if they didn't. Also, a horse that preforms at totlias level would never have been that precise with the moments if he were unhappy/in pain, he would've been slow or unresponsive. It's all about technique and trust. :)

Wrong! Maybe bad trainers will but you're wrong! I myself am a dressage rider (even if not very experienced) and never has one of my friends hurt their horses, and they have been riding at least half their lives.

Agreed! and even then, I'd say that there is a very small percentage of trainers in the equestrian world who would beat their horses. Because everyone at my riding place either rides dressage or pleasure, the closest thing to beating a horse is and occasional tap with the whip when they are not forward.

To everyone that's saying dressage isn't natural, go watch a small group of yearlings playing around in a paddock. I can guarantee you will see a few dressage movements in them. Extended trot, extended canter, pirouettes, flying lead changes. No, not all movements are natural, some do require training and refinement, but it's not completely unnatural.
